Foundation Today for Growth Tomorrow

Foundation Today for Growth Tomorrow

Living in North Texas I know a thing or two about foundations. We have a saying around here that your home has either had foundation issues or will have foundation issues. It comes from the clay dirt that expands when it rains or contracts when there is a drought.

When my wife and I purchased our first home we had little in the way of expendable income. To save money I had the brilliant idea of cutting back our watering schedule. We lived in the house for about 18 months when the front corner of our home dropped about a fourth of an inch. That may not seem like much, but it was a wakeup call that we had foundation issues. I learned the valuable lesson that in Texas, you keep your foundation watered.

Your foundation is your core of who you are as a business. To build a solid business, you need a solid foundation.

The same is true in business. Your foundation is your core of who you are as a business. To build a solid business, you need a solid foundation. And it’s not enough to build the foundation and walk away from it, you need to water that foundation to keep it stable.

At Centerpost Media, our foundation was laid by our founder Ed Frazier. He wanted a company that was built to help small businesses succeed. But there have been times along the way where we stopped watering our foundation. We lost our vision and started to focus and build on things not related to the core of who we are as a company. The result was frustration, much like the time I had to spend thousands of dollars to fix a foundation, all to save a few hundred dollars on a water bill.

As business leaders we often look for a quick fix to our financial needs. But a quick, poorly laid foundation is not the answer to long term success. So, as you look to Q1 of 2022, take the time to close out this year and make sure you have laid out a solid foundation for growth next year. Then keep watering your foundation as you grow.

The same is true for sales. The deals you will close in the new year are the leads you are prospecting today. Want to start off the new year with a bang? Lay the solid foundation today.
