Fresh Perspectives

Fresh Perspectives

I was reminded last night how doing something as simple as rearranging furniture can give me a completely fresh perspective. I was watching football on TV when my youngest walked in and asked “Dad, can we rearrange the furniture?”

This is not the first time my daughter has prompted me to rearrange furniture. She comes by it honestly; my mom has been rearranging furniture her entire life and I am prone to want to do the same from time to time.

So, my wife and I switched a chair for a recliner and moved the TV and couch around. It took us about an hour and when we finished it felt like we had a new home. When we sat down, we were facing a different direction and the space felt good.

That got me thinking how something as simple as rearranging furniture can make a space feel different and get the creative juices flowing again. And isn’t that something we need from time to time as leaders?

I am not suggesting moving your desk will solve your P&L problems but having a fresh perspective on any situation is good.

I am not suggesting moving your desk will solve your P&L problems but having a fresh perspective on any situation is good. Sometimes it is as simple as getting out of the office and meeting in a different spot. Or making a list of ideas that come to mind when you are not at work.

The mind can get bogged down with the mundane when we get into the rut of our normal schedule. So maybe take a moment to get outside of the office. Or if you are feeling adventurous, rearrange your office furniture.
